When 0ne of my best friends {and an incredible picker} brought this piece to my house, I was IN.LOVE. {Thank you, Lisa}  I didn’t care that neither cabinet door would open because of age, swelling, damamge, moving- whatever had caused the issue.  I can totally relate to furniture that has been through something, and that makes owning this piece even more meaningful to me.

Hello, Lover.

I didn’t set out with an plan, I just started painting, and finished with this:

Vintage Calligraphy Buffet

I thought about selling this piece for about 22 seconds, and then I realized that she belongs in my home.  She is painted in Behr “Powdered Snow” with Ralph Lauren Tea Stained Glaze & stamped with Vintage Calligraphy.  I posted a tutorial for creating Vintage Calligraphy on Furniture here.

Her cabinets still don’t open, and I’m totally okay with that.  I love furniture with imperfections.  I appreciate every ding and chip- and I don’t always repair every little boo-boo because character is better than perfection.

Can you see her imperfections in the middle?

I’ll never know what trauma caused these cabinet doors to be permanently shut, but I’ll love this piece and the story it holds even more for it’s imperfections.  The next time you see a “broken” piece of furniture, remember that even the broken pieces can be gorgeous again.  We all have a story, a history, a testimony…..

“Do not cheat thy heart and tell her, “Grief will pass away, Hope for fairer times in the future, and forget today”… tell her if you will, that sorrow need not come in vain: Tell her that the lesson taught her far outweighs the pain.”  Adelaide Anne Proctor

what a great piece, I love the original hardware. I have a similar desk that I found curbside I few years ago, it needed a little repairs but it definitely has great character and style
