When I look for furniture {usually in bed with my laptop late at night since I’m a night owl}, I start with Craigslist.  I usually search in “Furniture by Owner” so I don’t get stuck seeing 4,393 mattresses for sale in the Dealer section.  Looking at Craigslist for the Houston area today, here are a few pieces that I would buy- and why I would buy them.. {I searched for pieces under $150- because you can find excellent quality wood furniture made in the USA for under $150}

Craigslist Dresser for $100

This solid wood dresser from the 80′s or 90′s is listed at $100.  That’s a great deal for a piece this size, and I know from experience that a piece like this is normally very heavy, well made, and usually has dovetail construction on the drawers. (a sign of excellent craftsmanship).  I love the ornate hardware on this piece as well.  This would be a gorgeous buffet, or media console, or even a great changing table/dresser combo in a nursery.  Older Furniture provides so much more storage than the made in china furniture that you find nowdays in furniture stores.

Craigslist Chest for $90

  If you are willing to invest a little time & elbow grease- you can create custom storage pieces for your entire family that will outlast any particle or pressed furniture that stores offer today.  You’ll also save these great pieces of furniture from a landfill.  This piece looks tired brown, but with a fresh coat of black or white paint, it’s a fresh graphic piece for a bedroom.

  You can find a new dining set, like this one for only $150 and paint it any color you’d like.  I change my mind often on dining sets, so this is a cheap option if you like to change your furniture out like I do. (or, am I the ONLY weird one? Colby thinks I’m the only one with this issue…LOL!)

Solid Wood Dining Set for only $150

 And this gorgeous buffet is listed at only $75!

  Check out Craigslist and see what you can find near you today.

    Wow!! Those finds are amazing! I’d snap up that buffet in a second. Unfortunately Craigslist in Austrtalia is almost empty – will just keep trawling the thrift stores! Thanks for this series – it’s been great!
